CCO Magazine quotes the announcement by Reporters Without Borders (RSF): “Journalists who expose ecological scandals and investigate the consequences on local communities are obstructed from doing their work, threatened, and even killed. In the past ten years, over 200 reporters have suffered violent attacks for covering environmental issues. So to mark World Environment Day, this 5 June, RSF — together with UNESCO, the Forum on Information and Democracy, and other leading international organisations — is calling on governments worldwide to take responsibility. Protecting journalism and reliable information is essential to overcoming one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century: climate change.”
World Environment Day: RSF and leading press freedom and environmental protection organisations call on states to protect journalism
To mark World Environment Day on 5 June, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and five partner organisations are urging governments worldwide to recognise information integrity — the accuracy, consistency and reliability of information — as a pillar in the fight against global warming, and to protect environmental journalists and support media outlets covering these critical issues.
“We, press freedom and environmental protection organisations, call on states and the international community to take urgent action to protect journalism and information integrity.”
